Meet your transplant and HPB surgeon
The author of this blog is Dr. Ilango Sethu.
He is currently working as Transplant and HPB Surgeon in the Center for Hepatobiliary Pancreatic surgery and Solid organ transplantation at MIOT Hospital, Chennai.
He completed M.Ch in Surgical Gastroenterology at the Madras Medical College and obtained wide experience in the surgical treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, especially cancers.
Because of his interests, he developed what now appears to be a unique combination of multiple skills across multiple specialties. He learned interventional endoscopy because of my immediate clinical needs in 2002 and has more than 15 years of experience in the field of interventional endoscopy. He still does intraoperative endoscopies to plan and assess during cancer surgeries.
He started doing image-guided interventions for the drainage of liver abscess, fluid collections in the abdomen and in percutaneous biliary interventions, because of the lack of interventional radiologists and worked on creating the image guided surgical interface for better patient management.
He improved the care of patients suffering from acute pancreatitis and its complications since 2001, by improving individual elements of care which led to good results and avoidance of complications . This development led him to treat pancreatic diseases and took his research interest in the resuscitation of acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
He has completed the Multiorgan transplant fellowship under the American Society of Transplant surgeons (ASTS) at the University of Pittsburgh.
He took additional training in microvascular (suturing tiny vessels of 1 mm diameter) surgery at the Columbia University Microsurgical Department in NYC in order to provide care for children with liver disease, who require transplantation.
